Position Details

Job Objective

As required by the CARs, this position is responsible for the professional standard of all flight crew.
The Chief Pilot is responsible for the conduct of the pilot group. The successful candidate will identify deficiencies and develop strategies to ensure that pilots are mentored and disciplined in accordance with company policies and procedures.
The intent of this role is for succession planning purposes.

 

Role Qualifications

The Chief Pilot is responsible for the professional standards of the flight crew and shall:
• Develop standard operating procedures
• Develop and implement required approved training programs for flight crews
• Action and distribute accident, incident and other occurrence reports
• Issue directives and notices to flight crews
• Process and action flight crew reports
• Ascertain the operational suitability and requirements of all aerodromes and routes served by the Company
• Liaise with the Director, Inflight on matters pertaining to operational issues involving flight attendants
• Liaise with the Operations Manager on issues that pertain to pilot working conditions
• Coordinate the response to an investigation of Transport Canada or FAA enforcement action
• Support all initiatives and current policies and procedures associated with crew management
• Develop and maintain internal process for the distribution and action of applicable Incident/Hazard Reports
• Maintain communications for online managerial presence (ports/airport coverage)
• Responsible for the preparation and management of the department's budget
• Establish, promote and maintain effective safety management and quality assurance processes as per the roles and responsibilities outlined in the Quality Assurance Manual
• Liaise with the flight attendant group to ensure applicable joint sections of the COM are revised and maintained
• Maintain a consistent standard for performance management including mentoring, performance reviews, and discipline within the pilot group
• Represent the Company at internal/external meetings and conferences, as required by the Operations Manager
• Participate in cross-departmental working groups
• Be responsible for the development, integrations, coordination and management supervision of the de-icing/anti-icing program
• Supervise line pilots

 

Role Qualifications

• Previous Chief Pilot experience
• Minimum 4 years of management experience
• Must hold a valid Airline Transport Canada Pilot Licence
• Must hold a valid Transport Canada Class 1 Instrument Rating
• Must hold a valid Transport Canada Medical
• Must be Boeing 737 NG qualified
• The chief pilot's personal record in relation to aviation shall not include:
• any conviction under subsection 7.3(1) of the Aeronautics Act; or
• two or more convictions, occurring during separate unrelated events, under the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
• Must hold a valid Canadian Passport
• Hold a valid Transport Canada Restricted Area Pass or be able to obtain it within 4 weeks of start date
• College education level is preferred
• Must be able to read and be fluent in English
• Excellent communication skills and proven attention to detail
• Proven ability to coach and mentor a team
• Experience with HR role; i.e. hiring, mentoring, performance reviews, discipline, etc.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding and high stress environment
• Selected candidates must successfully complete all required training including Safety Management System (SMS), Emergency Response (ER), Dangerous Good and WHIMIS
